Tiny Spice Buds With Powerful Health Benefits and Careful Limits
Cloves are small aromatic spice buds rich in antioxidants and natural compounds such as eugenol, which may support oral health, digestion, immune function and inflammation control. They have traditionally been used to ease tooth discomfort, freshen breath and support stomach comfort, while their antioxidants help protect cells from oxidative stress. Cloves may also have mild antibacterial properties and can add strong flavour to food without needing extra salt or sugar. However, cloves should be used in moderation because too much can irritate the mouth, stomach or throat, and concentrated clove oil can be harmful if swallowed or applied directly without guidance. People taking blood-thinning medication, those with liver problems, pregnant women and young children should be cautious with clove oil or large medicinal doses. For most people, cloves are safest and most beneficial when used as a spice in cooking, teas or warm drinks.
