Overview
Ureteric colic is severe pain caused by a kidney stone obstructing the ureter.
Symptoms
Sudden, intense flank pain radiating to groin Hematuria (blood in urine) Nausea and vomiting Frequent urge to urinate or dysuria
Causes
Kidney stones obstructing the ureter Dehydration or high salt intake Metabolic disorders causing stone formation
Diagnosis
Urine analysis and imaging (ultrasound, CT scan) Blood tests to check kidney function
Treatment
Pain management with NSAIDs or opioids Hydration to promote stone passage Surgical intervention if stones are large or obstructive
