Overview

Stomach ulcers , also called gastric ulcers, are open sores that develop on the stomach lining due to stomach acid damaging the tissue.

Symptoms

Burning stomach pain Bloating or feeling full Nausea and vomiting Loss of appetite Weight loss

Causes

Infection with Helicobacter pylori bacteria Long-term use of NSAIDs Excessive alcohol consumption Smoking and stress

Diagnosis

Endoscopy to examine the stomach lining Testing for H. pylori infection Blood tests or stool tests

Treatment

Antibiotics for H. pylori infection Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) or H2 blockers Avoiding NSAIDs and irritants Dietary modifications and lifestyle changes
