Overview
Slipped disc , also called herniated disc, occurs when the soft cushion between the spinal vertebrae bulges or ruptures, irritating nearby nerves.
Symptoms
Back or neck pain Numbness or tingling in arms or legs Weakness in the affected limb Pain that worsens with movement Difficulty bending or lifting
Causes
Age-related wear and tear Sudden strain or injury Heavy lifting with improper technique Obesity or poor posture
Diagnosis
Physical and neurological examination MRI or CT scan X-rays to rule out other causes
Treatment
Rest and activity modification Pain relief: NSAIDs or muscle relaxants Physical therapy Surgery if conservative treatment fails
