Overview
Roseola is a viral infection usually affecting infants and young children, caused by human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6).
Symptoms
High fever lasting 3–5 days Rash appearing after fever subsides Irritability, mild respiratory symptoms
Causes
Infection with HHV-6 (and occasionally HHV-7)
Diagnosis
Clinical assessment of fever and rash pattern Blood tests rarely needed unless severe
Treatment
Supportive care: fluids, fever control with paracetamol Monitor for complications (rare)
