Symptoms
Progressive muscle weakness, especially in proximal muscles Muscle cramps or stiffness Difficulty climbing stairs or lifting objects Fatigue after minimal exertion
Causes
Genetic disorders (e.g., muscular dystrophies) Metabolic or endocrine disorders Inflammatory or autoimmune conditions Drug-induced or toxin-related muscle damage
Diagnosis
Physical examination and muscle strength testing Blood tests for muscle enzymes (CK) Electromyography (EMG) and muscle biopsy Genetic testing in suspected hereditary cases
Treatment
Depends on cause: immunosuppressive drugs, enzyme replacement, or medication adjustments Physical therapy to maintain muscle strength and mobility Assistive devices for daily activities Regular monitoring to prevent complications
