Overview

Low white blood cell count (leukopenia) is a reduction in the number of white blood cells, which increases susceptibility to infections.

Symptoms

Frequent or severe infections Fever or chills Fatigue or weakness Sore throat or mouth ulcers

Causes

Bone marrow disorders or autoimmune conditions Certain medications (chemotherapy, immunosuppressants) Severe infections or viral illnesses Nutritional deficiencies (vitamins or minerals)

Diagnosis

Complete blood count (CBC) to measure white blood cells Bone marrow biopsy if needed Review of medications and medical history
