Overview

Low sperm count (oligospermia) is a condition where a man produces fewer sperm than normal, which can reduce fertility.

Symptoms

Often no obvious symptoms Infertility in couples trying to conceive Pain, swelling, or a lump in the testicular area in some cases

Causes

Genetic or hormonal disorders Infections or testicular injury Varicocele (enlarged veins in the scrotum) Medications, lifestyle factors, and environmental exposures

Diagnosis

Semen analysis to check sperm count, motility, and morphology Hormonal testing if needed Scrotal ultrasound for structural issues

Treatment

Treatment of underlying cause if identified Lifestyle changes such as avoiding heat, smoking, or toxins Medications or hormonal therapy in specific cases Assisted reproductive technologies (e.g., IVF) if necessary
