Overview

Alcohol-related liver disease is liver damage caused by excessive alcohol consumption, which can lead to fatty liver, hepatitis, cirrhosis, or liver failure.

Symptoms

Fatigue and weakness Loss of appetite and weight loss Jaundice (yellowing of skin and eyes) Swelling of abdomen (ascites) and legs Nausea, vomiting, or confusion in advanced stages

Excessive and prolonged alcohol consumption Genetic factors increasing susceptibility Concurrent hepatitis infection

Diagnosis

Blood tests to assess liver function Imaging: ultrasound, CT, or MRI Liver biopsy if necessary to determine severity
