Lipoma is a benign tumor of fatty tissue, usually soft, movable, and painless, commonly appearing under the skin on the neck, shoulders, back, or arms.
Symptoms
Soft, doughy, and movable lumps under the skin Typically painless, but may cause discomfort if pressing on nerves Slow-growing over months or years
Causes
Genetic predisposition Unknown exact triggers Family history of lipomas
Diagnosis
Physical examination of the lump Imaging tests (ultrasound, MRI) if diagnosis uncertain Biopsy in rare cases to rule out malignancy
Treatment
Observation if asymptomatic Surgical removal if painful, growing, or cosmetically concerning Liposuction in selected cases
