Overview

Dystonia is a neurological movement disorder causing involuntary muscle contractions, leading to twisting, repetitive movements, or abnormal postures.

Symptoms

Muscle contractions causing twisting movements Abnormal postures of affected body parts Tremors or shaking in some areas Pain or discomfort from prolonged contractions

Causes

Genetic mutations in certain types of dystonia Brain injury or stroke affecting movement areas Medications (e.g., long-term use of antipsychotics) Unknown in many cases

Diagnosis

Treatment
