World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day 2026 Highlights Progress and Challenges

World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day 2026 highlighted both progress and persistent challenges in the global effort to control and eliminate a group of preventable and treatable diseases that continue to affect more than one billion people worldwide, particularly in low-income and underserved communities. Global health leaders, governments and partners marked the day by acknowledging that dozens of countries have successfully eliminated at least one neglected tropical disease, driven by tools such as mass drug administration, improved surveillance and stronger partnerships. However, experts warned that gaps in funding, data, healthcare access and health system integration continue to threaten progress, emphasising the need for sustained political commitment, investment in research and stronger primary healthcare systems to achieve the World Health Organization's 2030 elimination targets.
