Health Minister Ma. Subramaniam announced the establishment of 1,000 special medical camps across Tamil Nadu as the northeast monsoon arrives. During a visit to Salem with Tourism Minister R. Rajendran, he laid the foundation stone for a new four-storey ICU building at the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital.
Minister Rajendran also inaugurated 21 newly constructed buildings at primary and sub-health centres in Edappadi and Attur constituencies, completed at a cost of ₹7.04 crore. Over the past three years, the health minister has inaugurated several healthcare projects in Salem.
The ₹23.75 crore ICU building will cover 45,500 square feet and include 50 beds, with the PWD aiming to finish construction within a year.
As Tamil Nadu anticipates heavy rainfall, the state is taking precautionary measures to address fever cases, and 20 medical camps will be set up in Salem district alone. Despite eight dengue-related deaths reported this year, Subramaniam reassured the public there is no cause for alarm.
The event also saw participation from District Collector R. Brindha Devi, MP T.M. Selvaganapathi, and other officials.
