Early phase research suggests that a new injectable therapy may help reduce body fat while preserving lean muscle mass in obese adults. Unlike many current weight loss medications that can cause both fat and muscle loss, the treatment is designed to selectively target adipose tissue by acting on cellular pathways that regulate fat metabolism. Participants in the trial showed meaningful reductions in body fat percentage, stable or slightly improved muscle measurements and decreases in both visceral and subcutaneous fat on body scans. Reported side effects were generally mild, although researchers caution that larger and longer studies are needed to fully assess safety.Because losing muscle during weight reduction can slow metabolism and reduce strength, preserving lean mass has become a major goal in obesity care. Experts say a therapy that lowers fat while protecting muscle could improve long term outcomes when combined with nutrition guidance and exercise programs. While the injectable is not intended as a stand-alone solution, it may eventually become an important tool within comprehensive medical weight management if future trials confirm its durability and safety.
