Residents of Burgersfort and surrounding communities in Limpopo are being given an opportunity to access essential healthcare services free of charge as South Africa's annual Rotary Family Health Days campaign brings medical screening and preventive care closer to underserved communities. Led by Health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, the initiative takes place on 29 October 2026 at the Marula Platinum Mine Sports Ground near Driekop, in partnership with the Rotary Action Group for Family Health & AIDS Prevention, the South African National AIDS Council, Marula Platinum Mine and other stakeholders. The campaign offers a range of services, including HIV and tuberculosis testing, blood pressure and diabetes screening, cancer checks, childhood immunizations, eye examinations, dental care and family planning assistance. By providing several health services at one accessible location, organizers hope to encourage residents to identify medical conditions before they become serious and reduce the difficulties faced by people living far from healthcare facilities. The initiative also promotes healthy lifestyles, disease prevention and greater awareness of chronic illnesses that continue to affect South African communities. Parents are encouraged to bring their children for vaccinations against preventable diseases, while adults can undergo important routine health assessments. The campaign demonstrates how partnerships between government, healthcare organizations and the private sector can strengthen community healthcare and help make early diagnosis and treatment more accessible.
