Scientists have developed a new AI-powered blood test capable of detecting early liver disease years before symptoms appear by analysing patterns in tiny fragments of DNA circulating in the bloodstream. The technology, known as a liquid biopsy, examines genome-wide patterns of cell-free DNA and uses machine-learning algorithms to identify subtle signals linked to liver fibrosis and cirrhosis, conditions that often progress silently until significant organ damage occurs. Researchers say the test can analyse millions of DNA fragments across the genome to uncover disease-specific patterns, offering a powerful new approach to early detection and prevention. If validated in larger clinical studies, the technology could allow doctors to identify liver disease sooner and intervene before fibrosis advances to cirrhosis or liver cancer.
